Our Story

It all started with a couple’s project: Claude, a modeler, and Francine, administrative manager, and secretary by trade. After a few meetings to discuss grants and the search for financing, in a context of recession with interest rates approaching 20%. The project was officially incorporated on January 12, 1984, thanks to the confidence of the vendor, who decided to finance the project. Modelage mécanique became Moules Industriels in 1989, and Mi has been growing ever since! From a small team of 5 based in Sherbrooke, Quebec, the company now boasts over 300 employees in 4 locations across North America. Our first major automotive customer helped us quickly acquire expertise in mold design and manufacturing. In 1997 Mi expanded with the creation of a complementary entity, Mi Plastech, also in Sherbrooke for thermoplastic injection.

In 1998, Mi received its first ISO certification, a standard that ensures a more rigorous and efficient process. In 2006, the 2 divisions (Moules Industriels and Mi Plastech) came together under a single parent company: Mi Integration thus enhancing management efficiency, but above all offering a collaborative and integrated service. In 2010 Mi Plastech obtained the TS16949 certification. This standard sets out the specific requirements for quality management in the automotive industry, establishing Mi as a prime supplier. In 2011, Mi moved to San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to create SLP Mi Integración. This proximity is a distinctive advantage in creating and preserving our fruitful relationships. To keep pace with growth, a move was necessary in 2012. The headquarters and Moules Industriels moved into a new 56,000 sq. ft. building, allowing an update to the equipment.

In 2014 Moules Industriels celebrated its 25th anniversary and the start of the transition process to the next generation. President Francine Guay is preparing to hand over the reins to her son Vincent Houle as President, as well as appointing her daughter Marie-Claude Houle as VP of the Board. Francine Guay took then on an advisory role while remaining Chairman of the Board. 2017 symbolizes the launch of Mi LAB and 5 new patent-pending technologies. This research and development laboratory enables Mi to position itself even more as a value-added player, responding to market needs by integrating innovative technologies. In 2018, an agreement with a new automation partner has enabled us to turn our innovative ideas into real life projects, and ensure a high level of repeatability and quality. 2023 – Eighth consecutive year recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies by Deloitte.
